Inflammatory arthritis is a group of different conditions which are characterized by the inflammation of joints and connective tissues. This group of conditions includes psoriatic arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus).
Typical symptoms of inflammatory arthritis include pain, swelling, tenderness, and warmth in joints accompanied by stiffness typically in the morning lasting for a couple of hours. Inflammatory arthritis is usually systemic, so other symptoms may also arise in other parts of the body. Dependent upon which particular condition the patient has, these symptoms can include inflammation of the eyes, hair loss, dry mouth, fever, and skin irritation.
