It is not uncommon to have a headache after suffering a head injury, but these will usually pass quickly. However, there are some occasions where the post-injury headaches can last for months or even years, and this is known as post-traumatic or post-concussion headaches.
People who suffer from post-traumatic headaches will often be suffering from post-traumatic syndrome as well. Some of the symptoms of this condition include blurred vision, ringing in the ears and dizziness. It is also common for there to be some psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance and even personality changes. Post-trauma syndrome, which is also known as a post-concussion syndrome, can also cause confusion and decreased concentration.
Unfortunately, post-traumatic headaches are symptomatic and there are no known cures for the post-traumatic syndrome, so doctors treat symptoms on an individual basis.
